Itinerary
Grant Street Studios is a creative hub in Phoenix’s historic Warehouse District, housed in a former industrial building that has been transformed into studio and exhibition space for Arizona State University’s School of Art. Since opening in 2014, the studios have brought new life to the area’s industrial architecture, with working spaces for graduate artists and galleries showcasing photography and contemporary art. Its raw warehouse character reflects the district’s evolution from a center of commerce and manufacturing into a vibrant arts community.
The Lawrence Building is a historic warehouse in downtown Phoenix’s Warehouse District, showcasing the industrial character that once defined the area’s commercial landscape. Today, the building has found new life as a destination for creative businesses and event spaces, blending exposed brick, high ceilings, and original warehouse details with modern uses. Its adaptive reuse reflects Phoenix’s ongoing effort to preserve its architectural heritage while supporting a growing downtown community.
The Duce occupies the former Anchor Manufacturing Company building, a warehouse constructed in 1925 that once specialized in manufacturing automobile and bus bodies, as well as ornamental structural iron. The building later served a variety of industrial and commercial purposes before being reinvented as a retro-inspired entertainment venue. Today, The Duce combines vintage décor, an Art Deco-style bar, boxing-ring atmosphere, and dining, creating a lively tribute to Phoenix’s industrial past.
The Egyptian Motor Hotel is a distinctive mid-century landmark along Phoenix’s Historic Grand Avenue, originally built in the early 1950s during the golden age of American roadside motels. Known for its Egyptian-inspired design, bold signage, and open-air layout, the property captured the excitement of automobile travel along one of Phoenix’s historic commercial corridors. Revitalized and reopened in 2023, the hotel preserves its nostalgic character while embracing contemporary hospitality, outdoor entertainment, and local culinary culture.
Bragg’s Pie Factory is a historic Phoenix landmark at 1301 Grand Avenue, built in 1946 to house the growing pie-baking business of Allan and Elaine Bragg. Once a state-of-the-art bakery, the factory produced pies for restaurants and grocery stores, with delivery routes extending throughout Arizona. Its distinctive International-style architecture, featuring smooth concrete walls, glass-brick windows, and a striking angled corner, makes it a memorable example of mid-century commercial design. Today, the building serves as a creative space for artists and local businesses, preserving an important piece of Grand Avenue’s industrial and culinary history.
